Family Dentistry

Children have different oral health needs than adults do, and it’s vitally important for them to learn how to properly take care of their teeth. At Sunflower Dental, we are happy to welcome patients of all ages.

We recognize the importance of practicing good oral health habits, which is why we want to help patients, especially children, learn how to have healthy mouths.

Family dentistry is the practice of addressing oral health at any and every stage of life. Sunflower Dental is a dental practice that will provide comprehensive oral care for children as they age and make the transition from baby teeth to permanent teeth.

Oral Health with Sunflower Dental

Oral health refers to the state of the mouth, including the teeth, tongue, and gums. If a patient’s teeth go too long without proper dental cleaning, they can develop dental caries. Dental caries — more commonly known as cavities — are the leading cause of tooth decay among patients of all ages.

Dental caries occur as tooth enamel is gradually broken down by bacteria on the teeth. If a patient practices good oral health habits, the chances of a cavity forming are significantly decreased.

There are two components to good oral health care: cleaning at home and visiting your dentist for regular checkups.

  • Cleaning at Home: Patients need to maintain good oral health habits in the home. This is why family dentistry is important, especially for young children. At Sunflower Dental, we teach our patients about brushing and flossing at home and encourage them to make a habit of brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once a day.
  • Visiting Your Dentist: Make regular, biannual appointments to come in for teeth cleanings, exams, and polishing. We will be able to assess the state of your mouth and check for dental caries or other signs of disease or decay.

When patients are able to effectively fight plaque and bacteria buildup at home, it makes it our job of maintaining your beautiful, white smile easier.
